A Michigan Miracle
Dr. Abdul El-Sayed won his primary in Michigan! His win provides a blueprint for all of us around the country for how the many can beat the money. While most assume I went to help Abdul because of our shared heritage, what binds us is actually so much more than the happenstance of our birth.
Abdul believes in getting money out of politics, putting money in your pocket, and Medicare for All. That is such a succinct call to action for fighting for our constituents to have a good life where they are not being squeezed from every angle while corporations benefit from our tax dollars.

But, this win was not easy. The money spent to defeat Abdul would fund the entire free breakfast and lunch program for kids in Georgia 10 times over. We have become so accustomed to big money in politics, but it is hard to fully grasp just how much money was spent to defeat Abdul.
But, it didn’t work. He beat an 11:1 spending difference by holding almost 500 events all around Michigan and building a statewide field program that knocked 200,000 doors!
The many beat the money, again!
Here in Georgia, Rick Jackson just used his own money to buy $87 million in ads against Keisha Lance Bottoms. But, as our primary showed and as the Michigan primary showed, the many can beat the money. I believe we can re-elect Senator Jon Ossoff, flip the Governor’s mansion, and even flip the State House!
But, we need to build the infrastructure. We do not even need to match them 1:1, but we do need to raise enough to pay our staff a living wage, pay for our lit, and reach voters all around the district.
If you have been feeling like there is no point, I hope that our win in June and now Abdul’s win in Michigan shows how far we can go! Chip in and sign up to volunteer! The many can and will beat the money.
We are taking nothing for granted, and this weekend we are launching our field program for the general! Join us to learn more about how we’re going to keep this seat, flip other seats, and make history!
Most campaigns will wait until the last 6 weeks of an election to run a field program. Not us. We believe in a year round organizing philosophy. It’s why we are back on the trail this weekend! Here’s the list of our events just for this weekend!
Saturday, August 8
10AM - First Canvass of the General Election
2PM - Second Canvass of the General Election
5PM - Launch Party
Sunday, August 9
2PM - Canvass with Senator Rashaun Kemp
Our state deserves so much better than the 30 year Republican rule that has made our state one of the worst in the country for healthcare. I firmly believe that together, we can have a government that works for us. It’ll just take each of us doing our part!
In solidarity,
Rep. Ruwa Romman
